In practical use, the viscosity range from low to high is not just a number change — it directly determines how the system behaves during mixing, application, and setting.
For lower viscosity grades, Celopre MK is typically used where flowability and quick dispersion are more important. In dry mix systems, this helps reduce mixing resistance and improves leveling, especially in formulations that are sensitive to initial viscosity build-up.
As viscosity increases, the role of HPMC gradually shifts toward water retention and structural support. In cement- and gypsum-based systems, mid-range viscosities are commonly used to balance workability and open time, allowing sufficient adjustment during application without excessive sagging.
High viscosity grades are mainly selected when stronger water retention and anti-slump properties are required. This is particularly relevant in vertical applications or thicker layers, where maintaining material stability becomes critical during the setting process.
From a formulation perspective, viscosity should not be considered in isolation. The final performance always depends on the interaction between HPMC and other components such as cement, fillers, and additives. In many cases, small adjustments in viscosity grade can lead to noticeable changes in application feel and final performance.
Because of this, the MK series is typically selected based on the target application rather than viscosity alone. Matching the right grade to the system is more effective than simply choosing a higher or lower viscosity.
