Suspension polymerization (EPS)

Suspension polymerization (EPS)

EPS is a colorless and transparent plastic material. When the product falls to the ground or is knocked, it makes a crisp sound like metal. It has good gloss and transparency, similar to glass, but is brittle and easy to break. Common products: building thermal insulation materials, stationery, cups, food containers, home appliance housings, electrical accessories, etc.

The suspension polymerization of PS is a homogeneous suspension polymerization. The polymerization reaction conditions are relatively simple and the products are mostly transparent beads.

Recommended Solutions

Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC)

HPMC has excellent dispersing properties and can form a stable suspension, prevent particle aggregation and improve product performance. Recommend grade: Celopro®MK100, Celopro®MF50, Celopro®ME50, Celopro®ME15

Celopro® cellulose ether has high mechanical strength, flexibility, heat resistance and cold resistance, and has good compatibility with various resins and plasticizers.

Product Features and Advantages

1. Dispersibility

Celopro®Cellulose ether increases the viscosity of the dispersion medium, thereby hindering the microspheres from getting closerand reducing their surface tension. At the same time, a protective film is formed on the microspheres to prevent adhesion, thereby our customer can obtainthe uniform polystyrene particles.

2. Stability

Celopro®Cellulose ether reduces the surface tension of water, making the suspension system more stable and more conducive to controlling the size and morphology of EPS particles.

3. Improve product performance:

Using Celopro®cellulose ether as a dispersant to make EPS particles usually have better pore structure and mechanical properties, which helps to improve the final application performance of EPS, such as thermal insulation and lightness.
